A spokesman for Quora told the BBC, "We're always monitoring what our users post but we don't moderate any content." Quora launched an investigation of the incident on April 24. It said the post violated its terms of service, which state, "You may not post content that you do not have the right to share." It also said the post was "obscene" and "crude and disturbing."
Faceless reported that the website sells facial recognition technology to law enforcement agencies.
In an e-mail sent to employees, Quora founder and CEO Adam D'Angelo wrote, "This is a very serious breach of our terms of service and we will be taking all the appropriate actions against the person who did this."
Quora has one million monthly active users and claims to have one million contributors.
Reportedly, the post was deleted by one of Quora's employees and not by an automated program.
